LOUISE SOLHEIM PASSES AWAY AT 99Update ~ to the Passing Away of Louise Solheim, she will be greatly missed.
LPGA PRESS RELEASE JULY 8, 2017 "PHOENIX – Louise Solheim, wife of PING Founder Karsten Solheim, has passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 99. “Today we lost a very special woman who touched and improved the lives of so many,” said John A. Solheim, Karsten and Louise’s youngest son and PING’s Chairman & CEO. “Our mother was a blessing to everyone in so many ways. She had a special quality that gave her the ability to bring a smile to everyone’s face and she handled every situation with grace. We looked to her for guidance in all aspects of our lives and she always took great care to advise us, building our confidence to make decisions ourselves. We will miss her dearly. Our entire family is at peace knowing she’s now in God’s care.” "Louise was a soft-spoken, gracious lady who worked side-by-side with Karsten to build PING into one of the most successful golf equipment companies in the history of the game while raising a family of four children. She chose to remain off stage and left the spotlight to Karsten. She vowed the day she was married to put Karsten’s desires and those of their family ahead of her own. She did it willingly and joyfully without the need for recognition. “I most definitely wanted it this way,” she often said." "Despite her desire to maintain a low profile, her countless contributions are widely recognized and deeply engrained in PING’s history. She is credited with naming the most famous putter in golf -- the PING ANSER -- which has been used to win more than 500 professional golf tournaments around the world. Her role in creating the Solheim Cup in 1990 opened the door to bringing women’s professional team golf to a world-wide stage for the players to show off their shot-making skills while competing for the honor of their countries." "Her numerous honors include an Honorary Doctorate degree from Arizona State University (1992), the LPGA’s Commissioner’s Award (1994), Swedish Golf Federation Distinguished Service Award (2003), Arizona Golf Hall of Fame (2004), Arizona State University Regents Award for Outstanding Service to Higher Education (2004), Honorary LPGA member (2005) and Honorary Ladies European Tour member (2011)." “Louise had a keen business sense that she combined with a generous heart,” said Karsten Louis Solheim, the oldest son. “She was guided by the Bible and wanted every action to be pleasing to God. She believed God had been exceptionally good to us and wanted to make sure as a company we gave back. She was especially thoughtful in her administration of the Solheim Foundation. I worked closely with her over the years and she applied a wise and fair approach to the distribution of the funds, always making sure the beneficiary’s values and missions led to the betterment of people’s lives.” Link to the article: www.lpga.com/news/louise-solheim-passes-away-at-99

MICHELLE WIE MAKES A CHARGE FOR FIFTH SOLHEIM CUP APPEARANCE
Topic: SOLHEIM-CUP MICHELLE-WIE - TEAM USA - JULY 7, 2017 "Successful athletes' performances often fly under the radar and suddenly peak on the eve of a championship run. That may well be the case for Michelle Wie, who has seemingly come out of nowhere to find herself in the hunt for her fifth consecutive berth in the Solheim Cup." "The Honolulu native, who became the youngest Monday-qualifier for an LPGA event at age 12, joined the LPGA Tour at age 18 and captured her only major victory at the U.S. Women's Open in 2014. The next two years were a struggle for Wie who managed only one top 10 and suffered through an injury-riddled 2016 season. "2017 saw Wie return to top form with six top-10 finishes in LPGA tournaments, including three top 10s in June. They include a tie with Lexi Thompson for second place at the Meijer LPGA Classic, a tie for third at the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer, and a tie for fourth at the Walmart Northwest Arkansas Classic Presented by P&G. She also carded top 10s in three earlier events; the ANA Inspiration, HSBC Women's Championship and the Citibanamex Lorena Ochoa Match Play Championship -- a good tune-up for the Solheim Cup match play format." "After a frustrating 2016, Wie says her recent successes are making golf fun again. Wie told Golfweek in a June interview: “I definitely play my best golf when I’m having fun out there.” "Those successes vaulted the 27-year-old Wie into seventh place in the 2017 Solheim Cup Team USA points standings, and have propelled her to Number 31 in the Rolex World Rankings. This makes Wie a likely bet to tee off against Europe's top golfers Aug. 18-20 at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club." "As published in SB Nation, Wie said after her performance at the ShopRite LPGA Classic: “I’m stalking the list for sure." She continued, "I’m trying to get as many points as I can and trying to get up there and make the team." "Wie's first experience in a Solheim Cup came in her LPGA rookie season of 2009, when she helped carry Team USA to victory. She also played in Solheim Cup tournaments in 2011, 2013 and 2015. Her combined record includes seven wins, seven losses and one halve in her four Solheim Cup appearances." "Don't miss the action of the most exciting event in women's professional sports. USA Team Solheim Cup News by LPGA July 20th, 2017
"Juli Inkster dropped a few clues at today’s Solheim Cup Media Conference that Nelly could join her sister Jessica – who is comfortably automatically qualifying – in Des Moines."
"Inkster said: “Nelly Korda has been consistently playing well. If you look at her scores, she shoots good scores all the time. She never shoots a real high score. I mean, she'll do like a 71, 72, 73, but she never shoots a 75 or a 76. She shoots a lot of good, low scores."
“I like her make-up. I like her fire. She's definitely wired different than Jessica, even though they look similar. You know, Jessica is a little more carefree, outgoing, easy, and Nelly is a little more reserved, a little more inner heat. “I invited her to all the dinners and practice rounds. She's fit in nicely with the team, so yeah, she's definitely one I'm looking at.”

Expect fresh faces, same intensity at Solheim Cup
By Randall Mell August 1, 2017, 12:00 pm "ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – It’s funny how team golf works. While Americans and Europeans have become marginalized in this modern era of the women’s game, the Solheim Cup has never been more relevant. While Asians dominate the game as a whole, the Solheim Cup has ascended to new prominence as compelling theater. American Lexi Thompson will be the only top-10 player in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings in this year’s Solheim Cup, but the nature of the intensifying rivalry between the United States and Europe in the biennial international team event makes that a mere footnote. The Solheim Cup spotlights the one and only true rivalry today in the women’s game. If the Solheim Cup wasn’t already a grudge match, it officially became so two years ago, when Norway’s Suzann Pettersen practically ignited an international incident over Europe’s lack of a concession in a fourball match in Germany. The furor set off a debate pitting the Rules of Golf against sportsmanship, with hard lines drawn over whether Pettersen violated the spirit of the game in her refusal to concede a putt that American Alison Lee thought was conceded." It left Lee in tears at the end of the match, and Pettersen in tears at the end of the day as the backlash on social media hit with brutish force. Pettersen ended up throwing herself on the mercy of fandom, issuing a public apology on Instagram and then following up with an apology in a special Golf Channel interview. “I am so sorry for not thinking about the bigger picture in the heat of the battle and competition,” Pettersen wrote in her lengthy apology. “I was trying my hardest for my team and put the single match and the point that could be earned ahead of sportsmanship and the game of golf itself.” Link to the rest of the article: www.golfchannel.com/news/randall-mell/new-faces-same-intensity-tap-solheim-cup/
