Michelle Wie WDs from LPGA's Marathon Classic with hip, foot pain By Golfweek Staff
A few days after falling six shots short of successfully defending her U.S. Women’s Open title, Michelle Wie will miss the next LPGA stop, the Marathon Classic, because of an injury. Wie cited her ailing left hip and left foot Tuesday in announcing her withdrawal from the event, which begins Thursday, in Sylvania, Ohio. She also withdrew from the Kingsmill Championship in May. Wie released this statement: “After consulting with Dr. Thomas Graham, Dr. James Rosneck (hip specialist) and Dr. Alan Davis (foot specialist) at the Cleveland Clinic, I have decided to withdraw from the Marathon Classic this week due to lingering bursitis in my left hip and a bone spur in my left foot. I’m disappointed to miss one of the LPGA’s best tournaments, but I remain determined to get healthy as I know my best golf is still to come. I expect to return to competition at the RICOH Women’s British Open.”
