lots more pics on my blog: Thailand’s Junthima Gulyanamitta Wins 2011 LPGA Qualifying School Fairways and ForehandsNumaIt’s been a pretty good end of the year for fans (like myself) of Thai golfers. First, Ariya Jutanugarn wins 2011 Rolex Junior Player of the Year. Now, Junthima Gulyanamitta wins the 2011 LPGA Qualifying School, overtaking Christine Song, who had led for four rounds, by 2 strokes. A member of the 2010 Purdue NCAA Championship team, Gulyanamitta fired a final day 4-under 68 to finish at 10-under overall. Just about all Thai people have a shorter nickname than their given names and Junthima does as well. Her nickname is Numa, so for this and future posts about her, I will refer to her as Numa. She is a sister of Russamee Gulyanamitta, who was her caddy. “With my sister, it felt like just another day of golf. There were a lot of expectations and a lot of support, so it feels good to accomplish my goal. It’s a good feeling to win a tournament. It doesn’t matter if it’s a big tournament, a small tournament, a qualifier.” – NumaJust to hear her voice, here is a short video of her speaking while at Purdue. Lizette Salas won a 9-player playoff to capture the last spot of the top 20, all of whom gain full 2012 LPGA Membership. The players from 21st thru 30th earn category 16 status, while 31st thru 40th and ties earn category 20 status. “It’s bittersweet, but it’s OK. I wanted to win and I put a lot of pressure on myself, but the goal was to get my card, and I did that.” – Christine SongChristine SongJennie Lee
