ShopRite LPGA Classic Pre-tournament News and NotesShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer Galloway, New Jersey Wednesday Pre-Tournament Notes May 27, 2015 EXCERPTS:WIE BACK IN ACTIONMichelle Wie returns to action this week after withdrawing after the first round at the Tour’s last stop at the Kingsmill Championship with a hip injury. Wie went through a series of evaluations and MRIs and was diagnosed with bursitis and was thankful for no further or serious damage. “They thought it might have been a disk issue, so we went straight to the MRI,” said Wie. “Thankfully it was not a disk issue, which I was really excited about. And then I flew back to Jupiter immediately, took three more MRIs that day just because my whole left leg was hurting. So thankfully everything came out clean, except for my hip, which is kind of what I was thinking. No tears, nothing, no structural damage, which I was really happy about.” With a week of rest ahead of her in Florida, Wie said she’s never one to sit around and just watch TV. She wanted to stay away from sulking on an injury and filled her time with attending an NHL playoff game in Tampa, a Darius Rucker concert and dying her hair purple. “I mean it’s tough when you’re injured, so I think the worst thing to do is just kind of sit at home and sulk and do nothing,” said Wie. “So I definitely made the most out of it. We went to the hockey game, my first hockey game, which was amazing. Big hockey fan now. And then we went to a Darius Rucker concert. So yeah, the week actually flew by really fast.” PEAKING AT THE PERFECT TIMEMichelle Wie echoed Lewis saying coming off an off week is a great setup for a good summer run and is looking forward to the upcoming tournaments. “I think it’s like the perfect time to peak,” said Wie. “You know, I’m just kind of slowly building, slowly building. Maybe a little bit too slowly this year, but I’m slowly building. I want to peak right at that time, and I think this is a really good three-week stretch. I love this week. I love Canada and KPMG is a really new, exciting event in New York at Westchester and I’ve only heard great things about it, so I’m excited for the upcoming events.” Link to Articlewww.lpga.com/news/2015-shoprite-pre-tour-notes-wednesday

Gone With the Wind? ShopRite's Bay Course PreviewWritten By: Amy Rogers@TheAmyRogers The casinos of Atlantic City stand just beyond the bay, the skyline in full view as players gamble against the prevailing winds of the Bay Course’s front nine. LPGA Rules Official Donna Mummert says players can expect “firm and fast conditions,” this week at the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey. With the Donald Ross design sitting along Reeds Bay, the wind will play a factor particularly on the front nine of the Bay Course. Despite the beautiful views of Atlantic City, the exposed area will bring the prevailing winds into play. In addition to wind, rough will present another challenge this week. Mummert says players will see rough at three inches in height, adding there are “a lot of areas where there is tall fescue along bunker faces and along some mounds of greens and beyond the first cut of rough.” Greens will be running at 11 ½ on the simpmeter with the course playing to a total of 6,177 yards for the week at a Par 71, which Mummert says is “setting up to present difficult challenges” for players this week in New Jersey. A two-time winner of this event, Stacy Lewis defends her title this week after winning last year’s tournament with a total of 16-under par, one shy of Annika Sorenstam’s tournament scoring record, which she shot in 1998 and 2005. Wie (hip pain) withdraws from Canadian eventBy Randall Mell Michelle Wie has withdrawn from this week’s Manulife LPGA Classic with lingering pain in her left hip. Wie, suffering from bursitis, an inflammation in the hip, missed the cut at last week’s ShopRite Classic. She wore a brace on her left ankle while playing and was visibly affected by the injury. “I was a little bit sorer than expected,” Wie told reporters leaving ShopRite. “It’s frustrating. I can tolerate the pain. It just doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do. I think it’s better, but it’s not. It’s tough to be patient and stick with my game plan with my hip and whatnot.” Wie withdrew from the Kingsmill Championship with hip pain in her last start before ShopRite. She shot 72-74 at ShopRite and missed the cut by one shot. The year’s second major championship is next week (the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship) with Wie’s title defense at the U.S. Women’s Open just five weeks away.
