Thailand makes a charge in the International Crown team standings. The LPGA Tour is off to an exciting start to its 2014 season after Jessica Korda picked-up her second career victory at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic. With one tournament already in the books, players have five events remaining to land a spot and represent their country in the inaugural International Crown. Scheduled to take place July 24-27 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, MD, the International Crown is a first-of-its-kind, biennial, global match play competition featuring teams from eight countries battling for the right to be “Crowned” the world’s best golf nation. Each of the countries will be represented by four players based on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings announced on Monday March 31st at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Following the season-opening event in the Bahamas, South Korea and the United States still have a firm grasp on the top-2 positions with Japan trailing the United States by 80 points. Making a charge up the standings this week is Thailand who bypassed Spain for the number four position with 257 points. Thai native Thidapa Suwannapura surged up the standings after a T11 finish in the Bahamas moved her up the Rolex Rankings 11 spots to No. 111. Also making a charge up the Rolex Rankings is American Jessica Korda who jumped 16 spots to No. 24. If the 20-year-old wants to land inside the top-4 for the United States, she will have to continue her dominant play as she is currently on the outside looking in at seventh among the American contingent.
