Michelle Wie gives back to Hawai'i junior golf Published: 12/12 1:00 pm Updated: 12/12 3:59 pm www.khon2.com/media/lib/128/4/c/8/4c827477-a5e5-4a76-9a15-1be4f0da63a4/Story.jpg [/img] As a 12-year-old golfer with a big drive and a dream, Michelle Wie launched her professional career by capturing the 15-to-18 year old division of the HSJGA. Her subsequent rise to national fame produced a scholarship to Stanford, as well as a LPGA career. This week, Wie is giving back to the organization that helped her attain her initial stardom. as the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association (HSJGA) Tournament of Champions at Wailea Golf Club takes course this Saturday and Sunday, she is giving her time and money to serve as the HSJGA title event sponsor. Wie will donate $10,000, as well as help organize fundraising for the event. "The HSJGA and I go way back to when I was just a kid who loved to hit the ball a long way...They gave me the opportunity to develop my game and competitive drive in an open, nurturing environment. They really made it possible for me to take my game to the next level" Wie said# The HSJGA, since its inception in 1998, has hosted other notable winners Stephanie Kono and Tadd Fujikawa since its inception in 1998# Both have since gone on to enjoy careers in professional golf# Mary Bea Porter-King, the HSJGA president is proud to see a former member pave the way for the future: "I really don't think Michelle realizes the enormity of her positive impact on junior golf, not only in Hawaii but across the United States and the world for that matter, the HSJGA is so proud of the way she has started her career on the LPGA Tour while being a full-time student at Stanford# We are so happy to have her back home to ignite more interest in junior golf in Hawaii and help the HSJGA 'Develop Tomorrow's Leader's One Swing at a Time#" Link to article: www.khon2.com/news/local/story/Michelle-Wie-gives-back-to-Hawaii-junior-golf/YxrvnPwqC06Me2UHVgm-lw.cspx?rss=1803
