This should be interesting:
The 6,585-yard, par-72 layout, designed by architects Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry in 2001, was the host course for the 2005 and 2006 HSBC Women’s World Match Play Championship, won by Marisa Baena and Brittany Lincicome, respectively.
There are 36 holes on site, including the Hickory Course, the only USGA-rated 18-hole par-3 course.
The Highlands Course, where the Sybase Match Play will be contested, finishes on what is normally the par-5 ninth hole. The nines were reversed for this event to take advantage of potential drama on the last three holes – a long par 3, a short par 4 and the 515-yard finishing hole, which has a downhill driving area and wetlands to the right and short of the green. The hole is nicknamed “Water Jump.”

Clue to playing the course:
LPGA: What is the key to playing well at Hamilton Farms?
STANFORD: Putting is the key to playing well at Hamilton Farms. The greens are big and you can have longer putts for birdie.
LPGA: How does it match with your game?
STANFORD: I think Hamilton Farms matches my game because you have to be hitting your irons well. Because the greens are so big, it helps to be more accurate.

Hole 4
Although the tee shot looks intimidating, the fairway is very wide. Take at least one extra club - two if the pin is back - for your approach to the green. Aiming for the center of the green will be a prudent decision.
Hole 5
When you catch your breath after viewing this magnificent hole from the tee, keep the ball on the fairway. Although reachable in two, this is a 3 shot hole for most players. Stay on the left side of the fairway on your second shot to have a better angle of approach to the green. The right greenside bunker is deceptive - the top of the bunker is actually 20 yards from the front of the green.

GLADSTONE, N.J. – To say it has been a disappointing season for Michelle Wie is putting it mildly. In five events, she has made only two cuts, her biggest paycheck coming in Thailand: $8,704. She ranks 129th in greens in regulation, 140th in putts and 148th in driving accuracy. Not even her length registers high as she’s 38th in driving distance. The low point? Missing the cut at her home course in Hawaii with rounds of 78-76.
Wie wasn’t asked to come into the media room this week at the Sybase Match Play Championship for a pre-tournament chat. She’ll face Mina Harigae in the first round.
The following is a three-minute conversation with Wie, 22, a recent Stanford graduate, on the state of her game following a rainy practice session (her time was limited):
What have you been working on with David (Leadbetter)?
We went to Orlando, did a lot of short game. Did some work on the machine they have for putting. I just wanted to see if I have a consistent stroke. Just an overall checkup; nothing really major.
What’s the machine?
It’s called “The SAM.” It’s been at the academy for as long as I can remember.
When you’re out here, what are mom and dad looking for? (Her mother, Bo, and father, B.J., are fixtures on the range and putting green.)
Just seeing if I do the same thing. Tempo, alignment. I sometimes align myself right. Just kind of fixing that and seeing if I have a consistent stroke.
Now that you’re out of school, is your practice schedule changing? You obviously have more free time.
It’s nice. If I want to sleep in a little bit, I can. I like to get out in the mornings; it’s hot in Florida. I try to get up by 6:30. On some days I can sleep in, I can be out at 10 a.m. if I want to. It’s nice because I can take a little rest and come back. I can kind of just move the schedule however I want to, which is really nice.
Hawaii had to be hard since that was your home course for years. Take me back there and the feelings that you had of, I’m sure, frustration …
It was really tough. It was very disappointing. It was a very rough Friday for me. I don’t think I’ve hit two OBs in a row since junior golf. It’s just been one of those years, those starts where nothing’s really been working. But I’ve been working a lot on my game and just kind of being patient with myself, keep positive. I still had a lot of good feelings after Hawaii. It’s coming together; just need to break through that wall and have one good week and gain a lot of confidence from it.
When was the last time you had two OBs?
I was 8 or 9. It was in match play … some junior tournament.
Do you feel more pressure now? It’s been kind of slow.
I try not to. Obviously I do. You look at the stats; I’ve been horrible this year. But I can’t really look at that. I still have a lot left in this year. Just have to take it one week at a time. I can’t start pressuring myself more than I am. Just been trying to stay positive and have fun with it. I still have fun when I go out there. It sucks when you play bad; it really does. But I still really enjoy the game, and I can’t wait for it. I’ve been working really hard. Just looking forward for it to pay off

Hi ya folks...call me crazy, BUT I have a good feeling about this tournament for Wiesy...for one thing, the kid is a TERRIFFIC Match Player....I think the kid is LOOKING forward to playing this type of event....

Wiesy is NORMALLY a very aggressive player...so this type of format really fits her game...she can take chances depending on her opponent's play...by the way...Mina is NO slouch in Match play either...I used to follow her Junior Golf Career...pretty darn impressive

anyway...in match play, ANYTHING can happen...you could play GREAT and still lose....and you could play LOUSY and still win...regardless, I truly believe that Wiesy will do great ...so I say....GO WIESY GO....Grip and Rip and see what happens....have a great evening everyone

Leadbetter happy with Wie joining Vision 54 program

Michelle Wie met with swing coach David Leadbetter early last week at ChampionsGate in Orlando in a bid to get her game back in form.
Wie also is now working with Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott and the Vision 54 program.
Leadbetter believes it will be a good complement to work he’s doing with her swing.
Wie, who has missed four consecutive cuts, opens the Sybase Match Play Championship Thursday against Mina Harigae. Wie, who was No. 3 in the debut of the Rolex Women’s World Rankings in 2006, has slipped to No. 29. Harigae is No. 83.
“Michelle has all the talent in the world, and she has the desire,” Leadbetter said. “She striped when we were together last week. She was hitting it nicely. I think it’s just a matter of getting confidence back.”
Leadbetter said Wie’s putting woes appear more a “mental issue” than a physical one. Nilsson’s and Marriott’s methods focus on the “mental, emotional and spiritual” dimensions of the game as well as the technical.
“We’ve just really got started with Michelle, and it’s been a lot of fun,” Nilsson said. “Putting is one of the areas she has not been happy with, and so it’s something we talked about right from the start.”
Wie first approached Vision 54 after missing the cut at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
“We are comfortable working with players who have great swing coaches,” Nilsson said.
Nilsson’s most famous student was Annika Sorenstam, but Ai Miyazato, Na Yeon Choi and Brittany Lincicome are among her students.
“Michelle’s putting stroke isn’t yippy,” Leadbetter said. “I think it’s more a mental issue.”
Wie went to see short-game guru Stan Utley earlier this year to work on her putting. She has also worked with Dave Stockton and Dave Pelz over the last three years.
“Michelle’s a tinkerer,” Leadbetter said. “She changes putters, she changes her grip.”
Leadbetter has advised Wie not to tinker so much, to find a putting stroke and routine and commit to it. She went to the belly putter last summer but ditched it at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in late March. She has been putting with a conventional putter and grip since and is expected to stay with it this week at the Sybase Match Play.

Not to worry. College is over. Unless she finds another extra curricula activity to occupy her mind, she should shortly return to form. Believe it or not, she was better off when she had a burning passion to one day play in the Masters. It would help if she became passionate again about a golf related goal, whatever it may be.
