Hello Wie Nation:  Boy, am I tired and disappointed…I am more disappointed than I am tired…I can’t believe how disappointed I am…I can’t believe that in one short week, I went from first round leader to first round last place in BoolaBoss’s contest…I must be in a slump… ;D ;D ;D Anyway… Michelle tees off from the back nine in about 20 minutes at 8:04AM. PST…TV comes on at 8:30Am. PST…Michelle should be on the 11th hole, 536yd par 5.…This is an Eagle hole…Yesterday, Michelle missed the fairway…I calculate that Michelle’s drive was about 240 to 260 yds into the rough and that left about a 280yd second shot to the green…Michelle needs to hit the fairways today to have a chance for some eagles… Yesterday, Michelle hit the fairways on 15, 16 and 18... Hole eighteen…531 yd par 5...Par…+1...currently T52 Hit the fairway…fairways hit 5 of 14...announcer said Michelle hit her drive over 300 yd Hit the green…gir 14 of 18putts 33 Two putt…putts/gir 28...total Michelle’s second shot would have been less than 231yds…But, Michelle chose to lay up…. Today, Michelle needs to have more confidence in her ability to make a 231yd second shot to the green… Yesterday, Michelle griped it and ripped it…. Today, Michelle has to grip it and rip it and HIT THE FAIRWAY!!!!! Current cut is +2 Michelle is +1...T47 Up first: Hole 10...388yd par 4...yesterday bogey…yesterday, a missed freeway and a missed green… Hit this fairway, michelle…let’s get 4 freeways in a row Go michelle go |

Well that was rough. Just how long has Michelle been struggling with her putting? I would have changed things up by getting either a putting coach if she doesn't have one or a new one if she does. I think in practice rounds she plays much better but how long are you going to keep things the same if you can't bring your practice round performance to the actual tournament.
I think something just has to change o get Michelle out of this funk maybe more practice with the new putter I don't know and apparently neither does anyone else.
Oh well lets hope with time we get improvement.

She's certainly testing the loyalty of her fans isn't she ? I thought with a birdie on the last she could still make the cut - did she go for it out of the rough and hit the water maybe ?
Driving and putting mediocre at best once more, and on a course which she likes and suits her. She and Lead better get their thinking caps on.....

The overall stats are not good.
Leadbetter needs to go.
Her parents need to go as putting coaches.
She needs a fresh look with new sets of eyes.
Same behavior, same results. Expecting something different is ludicrous. I was REALLY hoping this layout would get her going. If she can't play here, she's in deep trouble.
I'd find Harmon and Pelz immediately. However, from what I have seen, these are some very stubborn members of this team.
Panic button time imho.
Hope I am wrong, but have no reason to feel optimistic.

Pelz would be too mechanical for her, she's a feel player. Maybe they can crawl back to Stockton.... and Sean Foley ?

Davidy, Whether Pelz is too mechanical, imho, really doesn't matter, ANYTHING would be better. You mention Foley... Here is the IRONY of all IRONIES: when Michelle played her best golf when she was younger, when she won the Public Links, when she lost to Tseng the following year in the final, her coach was - drumroll please - Gary Gilchrist, now Yani's coach. Leadbetter pushed him out of the way to take over and try and take credit for Michelle. Ever since, mixed results. Gilchrist's work with Tseng speaks for itself. Oddly, ever since Suzanne Pettersen LEFT Gilchrist to go to Leadbetter, just one measly win in two years. And, even more ironic, most I think would agree Michelle's best putting was in the Solheim in Illinois. Who was her coach for that period of time? Of course, the Stocktons. Her best golf, swing and flat stick occurred with Gilchrist and Stocktons. How can they not make amends?  If she fails in Hawaii, I think it would be psychologically damaging to her career, planting all kinds of doubt (this week didn't help). I love watching her swing, it's a thing of beauty. But, there are obviously elements of it that need tweaking. I don't think anyone on her current team has an answer. I hate that we have to wait for her to get to Hawaii. But, here's hoping some HOME COOKING gets her BACK!!!! |
