I don't know about the rest of you Wiefans, but I am exhausted after living and dying with every shot this week! Today was particularly exciting. I did a lot of fist pumping and I'll be you all did too.
So proud of Michelle, US Women's Open CHAMPION!

Hi ya Bangkokbobby....what a fantastic Blog....great job...I would like to add that of all of the great shots by Wiesy in round four...a really really BIG one was her 3rd shot on hole #4...she hit her drive into the waste area and had to chip it out sideways...but her 3rd shot was SUPER close and she saved her par...if she had a bogey or worse, who knows what would have happen with her mindset anyway....great playing by Wiesy and a terrific Blog bangkokbobby....aloha...have a great week....way to go Wiesy!!!

I had to take a break Sunday I was getting so nervous, although I was checking the scores and just hoping for birdies or pars and then the 16 happened. I was so happy to come back to see her putt on 17 to give herself a cushion. Pretty much sealed it with that putt. Re-watching it, Michelle made some great par saves down the stretch also. BTW, I was impressed with Lucy Li watching her on Friday's broadcast. She hit some great shots onto the green. As Michelle said she's just so cute and she really handled herself well with the media. She's going to be real good in a few years if she keeps at it.

Stats and Stuff: Wie’s win a case in studying, putting confidenceMichelle Wie of the United States celebrates an eagle putt on the tenth green during the final round of the 69th U.S. Women's Open at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, Course No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina June 24 2014, Ward Clayton Michelle Wie was the symbol for the successful consecutive weeks of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. Wie’s first major championship title came last Sunday in the Sandhills of North Carolina and completed a week where she scouted the men playing the Donald Ross design, used their extensive notes to her benefit and then hung tough down the stretch to capture the title. On Sunday, June 15 – Father’s Day – she walked inside the ropes with the final group of the day, men’s champion Martin Kaymer and Rickie Fowler, as they finished the tournament. “I thought this would be really cool if it was me,” Wie said. “I was walking with (Jessica) Korda and we were kind of walking up 18, and I told Korda, ‘Look to your left. Those people in the stands.’ It was unbelievable. We both got goose bumps. I thought to myself, ‘I want to be here on Sunday. I want to feel this exact thing.’ It's a dream come true that it actually happened. I feel extremely lucky.” Cut to the final round of the U.S. Women’s Open. Prior to her early afternoon tee time, Wie talked with former U.S. Women’s Open champion Meg Mallon and with former PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley, who sent a couple clips of his aunt, Pat Bradley, winning the tournament. She also studied yardage books that Bradley, Fowler and their caddies passed along prior to the Women’s Open. “I don't think I've ever spent this much time on the yardage book as I did,” Wie said. “I think without those books I would kind of be a little bit lost, and I would have had to have figured it out more for myself. But it was kind of a cheat sheet. They wrote a lot of notes for me. It was helpful they played last week. “I spent almost two hours this morning working on my yardage book, where to leave it, where to land it. And it was awesome that I did it. I was telling (caddie) Duncan (French) that I probably need to do that more often.” Wie’s often-criticized putting stroke – with a pronounced bend at the waist – also completed the day for her. She didn’t three-putt all week, finished 10th in putting (119 putts for the week) and canned a 25-foot birdie putt on No. 17 – “one of the best putts I’ve ever hit in my life,” she said – to virtually seal the win. “I think that the ball is coming off the putter face a lot more consistently than it has before,” Wie said. “I practice a lot of lag putting. I practice putting a lot. I practiced an average of two hours last week. I was trying to feel comfortable out there. I was trying to make it a habit, just trying to make it routine.” Wie moved to seventh in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings with the win and led the field with only 10 scores of bogey or worse during the week. This is an interview with Mike Davis, the executive director of the USGA, and Dan Burton the vice-president of the USGA and chairman of the championship committee at the close of the US Women's Open 2014. There were questions about the course and one question with remarks about Michelle Wie and how she played the course. PINEHURST, NORTH CAROLINA MIKE TROSTEL: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the interview room. I'm here joined on my far left by Mike Davis, the executive director of the USGA, and Dan Burton the vice-president of the USGA and chairman of the championship committee. It's been a busy great few weeks we've had at Pinehurst. Two very worthy winners in Martin Kaymer and Michelle Wie. It's been a historic fortnight, here. Dan, your thoughts on the back-to-back championships here at Pinehurst? DAN BURTON: My first thought is wow. Wow. If you let me write a script about how I would dream it to go, that's how it went. Just an absolutely wonderful two weeks, great golf. I think we achieved every objective we could have possibly set out to enumerate. We presented the golf course, I think, both weeks in almost perfect fashion, thanks to Mike and all the setup people. We are just absolutely thrilled and have to say, I can't not say thank you to all the USGA staff who worked so hard to make this happen and make it happen flawlessly and seamlessly and also Pinehurst Resort to give us these two weeks to work with us in every regard and every say no to anything we needed to make this work. There just aren't words to describe how grateful we are to all the people that made this historic, historic moment happen. And we are just off the charts thrilled. The question regarding Michelle Wie: Q. It looked like Michelle Wie had incredible control of her ground game this weekend, with that low running stinger, and she bounced one up from the sand, and a few from the front of the greens, is that not a template how to play this course under these firm and fast conditions? MIKE DAVIS: I think a lot of us involved with site selection and golf course set up, we always love to see a course where you can bounce balls up. Whether you're playing out of four inch rough, it just gives the players an option. And when the greens are covered up in front with whatever, water hazard, a bunker, you that away, or soft conditions, too, even if it's open in front and it's real soft you can't bounce it in. So I think that's terrific. It allows the players to really show their shot making skills. And she hit a few shots today that absolutely did that. It was terrific. By the Numbers: Michelle WieJune 24 2014, Nicklaus Parker
The narrative for Michelle Wie’s spectacular two-win first half of the 2014 season has centered on her improved putting. But is that it? It feels like more is needed to explain a scoring average 2.58 strokes lower per round than her career average. Her numbers in all the major statistical categories actually closely mirror the best year of her career prior to now – 2009, when she finished 9th on the money list – but only this year those stats are even better. She’s basically having a career year in every category that means something since she became a full-card carrying member of the LPGA Tour. Her 1.765 putts per GIR and 29.96 putts per round actually are very close but not quite as low as her numbers in 2009. What this is more about – and we started to see this in the latter half of 2013 – is Wie’s ball striking has ventured into unprecedented heights and she’s back to putting on the level of her best years after a four-year swoon. This is the best Wie has ever hit the ball – bar none. She’s hitting 78.4% of greens (3rd on tour) – by the far the best year of her career – and when she does hit greens, she’s nailing putts. Her 1.765 putts per green in regulation is 3rd on tour. So why is Wie hitting so many greens? For one, she’s hitting a ton of fairways after making a concerted effort to hit driver less. Unsurprisingly her driving average is down from previous years, but she’s hitting the most fairways of her career. Prior to the switch in 2013, Wie had never hit more than 58% of fairways in an LPGA season. Last year she hit 62% and this year she’s up to 67%. What we saw at Pinehurst was a continuation of those season-long themes with Wie. Her golf swing has so much power that she frequently was able to just hit stinger 3-woods off the tee but was still 10th in the field in driving distance. That helped her to hit the 5th most greens in the field. Add to that the 10th fewest putts of the week and it’s not hard to see why Wie held the trophy on Sunday. Putts Per GIR2014 – 1.765 2013 – 1.799 2012 – 1.892 2011 – 1.920 2010 – 1.840 2009 – 1.760 Greens in Regulation2014 – 78.4% 2013 – 69% 2012 – 66% 2011 – 65% 2010 – 73% 2009 – 70% Driving2014 – 262.3 (67%) 2013 – 254.0 (62%) 2012 – 268.6 (53%) 2011 – 268.3 (53%) 2010 – 274.5 (54%) 2009 – 269.1 (58%) Link to Article:www.lpga.com/golf/blogs/2014/6/by-the-numbers-wie.aspx
