Kerr Defends, Wie in Hawaii and Top Rookies in Lotte Field Breakdown
by Bret Lasky April 9, 2018 "Wie Always the Hometown Favorite""The locals in Hawaii would love nothing more than to see Wie duplicate her 2014 run at the Lotte Championship when she turned in rounds of 70-67-70-67 to win by two over Angela Stanford and three over Inbee Park." "Since, Wie has finished T11 (2015), MC (2016) and T39 in Hawaii. To the delight of Wie fans all over the world, she’s off to a great start this year with one win and four top 25 finishes in six starts." "Her putting has been particularly impressive this year. She ranks 12thin putting average at 29.04. For perspective, last year she ranked 43rd in that category and two years ago she was 76th." THREE PAST WINNERS IN HAWAII HIGHLIGHT FEATURED LOTTE GROUPS
Michelle Wie, Cristie Kerr, Sei Young Kim at 7:44 AM
The hometown queen and two past champions tee it up in clearly the marquee group. Wie’s win in 2014 at the LOTTE Championship was a major breakthrough. She had gone 79 starts without a win dating back to 2010 before turning in scores of 70-67-70-67 to end the drought. Wie has gone on to win twice more since including this year at the HSBC Women’s World Championship.
Kerr turned in a third-round 62 in Hawaii last year and won by three shots while Sei Young Kim won in 2015 with a jaw-dropping finish. She chipped in on 18 to force a playoff against Inbee Park and then on the first playoff hole, made eagle from the fairway to seal victory. Her shots were featured as No. 1 on SportsCenter’s Top Plays. Kim is off to a bit of a slow start this year with one top 10 finish in five starts. She still ranks No. 19 in the world.

"Wie Loves Ping Pong" tournament.
By MG Montemayor, April 6th, 2018 KITV NEWS
Following the Lotte, the five-time LPGA champion will host the 4th annual "Wie Loves Ping Pong" tournament. Monies raised will benefit the Hawaii State Junior a Golf Association, the organization she came up from.
"It's turned into a wonderful event. It's like a prize fight. We set it up with all the tables and the lights on there, and big scoreboards. It's such a fun event. And it all goes to a great cause. We raise money that go back to raise college scholarships for our juniors," says Nichols.
"Michelle's come second three times. So this is gonna be the year."
Before all the fun and games though, Wie will be keeping her eye on the prize.
Wie won her third LPGA Tour title in 2014 at the Lotte.

Wie Trending Upward As She Arrives For LOTTE
STAR ADVERTISER By Jason Kaneshiro April 11, 2018 Michelle Wie tracked the ball into the cup and punctuated one of the biggest putts of the LPGA season to date with a fist pump befitting the 35-foot bomb. But she couldn’t celebrate victory just yet. That would come a few minutes later on a practice green, in a far quieter moment that early-March afternoon in Singapore. When the final group fell short of Wie’s score of 17 under at the HSBC Women’s World Championship, she shared a tight hug with her mother, an embrace no doubt sweetened by the struggles bridging the four-year gap between victories. “It’s such a special moment,” Wie recalled Tuesday. “I feel very lucky my parents were there to experience it with me. It’s always a really cool moment … and definitely a moment that I will cherish.” Wie’s comeback from a five-shot deficit to earn her first win since claiming the 2014 Lotte Championship and U.S. Women’s Open titles was emblematic of the year-long resurgence for the Punahou graduate. With eight top-10s last year and this season’s win, she rocketed from No. 118 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings last March to No. 13 heading into her return to Ko Olina Golf Club this week.
