From my blog: Yani Tseng Lives The Suite Life Fairways And ForehandsIn honor of world #1 and national hero Yani Tseng, the organizers of the 2011 Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship presented a special $2 million TWD (about $65,380 USD) suite for her exclusive use. All furniture and bedding in the 264 square meter suite is new. It also includes a jacuzzi. This will be the first LPGA event staged in Taiwan, scheduled to run from 10.20.2011 through 10.23.2011. If that wasn’t suite…er, sweet enough…Audi has special Yani cheering buses! They really love Yani in her homeland, where she is sometimes referred to as “the light of Taiwan.”

The LPGA holds its first tournament in Taiwan this week. Here are two videos. One is of the players' village, with dining area, sauna, lodgings, etc. The other is of hometown girl, Yani Tseng, returning to Taiwan following the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia. Obviously, the entire country of Taiwan will be rooting for a Yani win.

It's a beautiful trophy. It's great Taiwan is backing Yani and wonderful for the LPGA to have this tournament. Too bad Michelle will miss it this year.

I, too, was disappointed not to see Michelle playing. I assume we will see her at Mizuno...I hope so, anyway...

Michelle's absence is especially disappointing to me considering she actually shot a promo for the event!
Apparently, when she said "see you soon" she didn't mean at the event! ;D

from my blog: Suzann Pettersen: “I Can’t Wait To Take (Yani) Down On Her Home Soil”You have to love Suzann Pettersen. No matter how anybody else is playing, she is genuinely confident in her own abilities. In the following video, most of which are in Mandarin except for Suzann and Na Yeon Choi who speak English, Suzann says of playing Yani in Taiwan, “I can’t wait to take her down on her home soil.” For those who follow the LPGA, you might remember a joint interview with Suzann and Cristie Kerr on Golf Channel prior to the Solheim Cup where Suzann was not afraid to talk some smack about Europe beating the United States…and then Suzann and Europe backed up the talk. There is a line between confidence and arrogance. I don’t think Suzann was being arrogant at all. I just think she is supremely confident. Even if other players are intimidated by Yani right now, Suzann, win or lose, will not back down from the challenge. Yani, for her part, did some talking herself. She claims, “Actually, I’m glad I only finished second last week because it means I can still improve and win the championship this week.” If you believe Yani is ever “glad” about finishing 2nd, then I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn. Here are some clips from the pre-tournament media stops. Suzann’s quotes are in the clips.

from my blog: Sports Affair Council Denies It Asked For Taiwan Flag Not To Be Raised At LPGA EventTaiwan National FlagThe Sports Affair Council denied trying to block the Taiwan National Flag from being raised at the 2011 Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship, instead asking for the Chinese Taipei Olympic Flag to be raised so as not to offend Beijing. “Without the national flag, it would be meaningless to hold the tournament in Taiwan.” – Tai Hsia-Ling, SAC MinisterAccording to Ms. Tai, not only will the national flag be raised, they also plan to give away 27,000 of them during the tournament. The report in a local Taiwanese newpaper also claimed that Hsu Tien-ya, president of the Sunrise Group, was asked by the LPGA and IMG to raise the Chinese Taipei Olympic flag. Ms. Tai also rejected that claim, saying sports and politics should remain separate. Chinese Taipei Olympic Flag

Ms. Tai is complaining that sport and politics should remain separate, but the fact they're giving out 27,000 Taiwan National flags is a rather "in your face" political statement, isn't it?

The crowds at this event are stunning! This is a huge, huge win for the LPGA! And, for Taiwan... Yani leading, flag is flown, little flags everywhere!
Great job, commish!

This, again, was complete domination by Yani. She wins by 5, with all of the pressure of playing at home in front of 20,000 .... There is no one even close to her out there. It looks like Michellew will have a lot of work to do, and, with her schedule, and her present structure, I see no way for her to ever challenge Yani. Congratulations to a great champion!
